In January Strava, the leading digital community for active people with more than 120 million athletes, announced the report Year In Sport. As a running shoe enthusiast, I have chosen to focus mainly on these and other running-related equipment. Here are the most popular running shoes on Strava over the past year.
As part of the report, Strava conducted a global survey of 6,990 active people from both Strava’s global community of over 120 million athletes and a random sample of active people both on and off the Strava platform.
The results, combined with activity data from Strava 2023, provide new and unique insights into the trends that are shaping the world of exercise and exploration and give a hint of what we can expect to see this year.
But here I have chosen to focus on the most popular running shoes, along with the running watch that was most commonly used to upload data. Given the popularity of Strava among runners, this data gives a good indication of which running gear is actually the most popular among runners right now.

Summary of the Results
The results of this report are not surprising to me. I have already mentioned Hoka as one of the fastest-growing running shoe brands. Brooks is also a recognized popular brand along with Nike and some of the most popular running shoes in the US.
Also noteworthy is that Saucony Endorphin Speed is the fastest growing shoe model in the US right now, which proves what I mentioned earlier about the brand – that they have some of the best running shoes on the market right now.
The attention for the new Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 was huge when the shoe was launched in the US about a month ago and that proves its popularity.
In the rest of the world, Hoka Clifton and ASICS Novablast are showing strong growth. These are also two models of running shoes that I’ve noticed a lot of interest in here on the blog over the past year.
Among running watches, as expected, Garmin dominates. In the US, the affordable Garmin Forerunner 245 dominates, while the Garmin Forerunner 235 is most widely used worldwide.
