On 12 August 2025, ASICS introduced what may be its most aggressive leap forward in performance footwear to date – the METASPEED™ RAY.
Built with a single, uncompromising goal – speed – this racing shoe strips away every unnecessary gram and pushes the boundaries of what a distance racing shoe can be. At just 129 grams, it’s not only ASICS’ lightest carbon-plated shoe to date, but one of the lightest ever made in its category.
Born from Science and Speed
The METASPEED™ RAY is the result of intensive development at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science, combined with input from elite athletes chasing marginal gains. Its design draws inspiration from two ideas: the speed of a ray of light and the Japanese word “Rei” (zero), symbolising its near-weightless feel.
Featherweight Build, Maximum Propulsion
Central to the RAY’s performance is the FF LEAP™ foam – ASICS’ lightest, softest, and most responsive midsole material yet. This ultra-bouncy compound works in harmony with a minimal carbon plate, giving forefoot strikers a propulsive snap without the excess weight of traditional racing plates.
The shoe’s Dynamic Drop Structure adds another layer of speed enhancement. As the foam compresses at foot strike, the drop temporarily increases beyond its static 5 mm, creating a more forceful forward drive.
Precision Fit and Grip
The Matryx® woven upper locks the foot in place with almost no weight penalty, while the ASICSGRIP™ outsoleensures confidence underfoot even on slick, wet courses.
For serious racers, the METASPEED™ RAY offers a pure, stripped-down experience that turns every stride into an opportunity to go faster.
