Adidas TERREX takes a pioneering step into the future of high-speed trail running shoes with the introduction of its latest creation: the Agravic Speed Ultra. This groundbreaking running shoe has been meticulously designed over two years, drawing on insights from the world’s top trail runners to provide unrivalled speed for ultramarathon distances.
From idea to reality: A joint creation
The development of the Agravic Speed Ultra was not a solo project. Instead, it grew out of an intense collaboration between Team TERREX athletes and the adidas creative team. Names like Tom Evans and Abby Hall, acclaimed for their performances in Chamonix, and renowned record setter Petter Engdahl.

Hendrik Enders, Senior Product Manager at adidas TERREX, explains:
“We have tested a variety of concept prototypes, experimented with different materials, midsole configurations and advanced technologies to finally introduce the dynamic rocker geometry. This innovative feature is tailor-made for dynamic forefoot running.” The result? A revolutionary shoe that entices runners to push their limits and take on ultra-distance challenges, especially in events like Chamonix.
Features of the new adidas Agravic Speed Ultra
The Agravic Speed Ultra stands out with its LIGHTSTRIKE PRO midsole, which ensures superior cushioning while improving energy return so the runner can run faster.
The shoe also features Energy Rods, which we runners are familiar with from the Adidas Adizero Adios and Adidas Prime X models that I mentioned in my post on the best adidas running shoes. It is clear that running shoes with carbon fiber soles have seriously made their way into off-road running as well.
These provide a lightweight yet robust structure for a powerful stride that is tailor-made for the most challenging distances. Other premium features include a gusseted tongue for optimal midfoot support, durable seamless overlays and a Continental™ Rubber outsole that provides traction on both wet and dry terrain.
Proven on the podium
The Agravic Speed Ultra is not new to awards. Prototype versions have been celebrated on the podium, with athletes like Pablo Villa taking the lead in the Transgrancanaria and Ruth Croft winning the Western States 100.
This shoe will be showcased once again at the world’s premier trail running event in Chamonix, where Team TERREX athletes are preparing to take on the daunting 171km race.
Models and availability
The Agravic Speed Ultra is available in shades of impact orange, crystal white and semi-spark for men, and amber tint, crystal white and semi-spark for women, and the price is 230 euros.
Running enthusiasts can get their hands on this innovation from spring 2024 via the adidas website, their app and selected stores.
